Madalyne M. Hess, age 84 of Hess Rd. Sackets Harbor died Monday afternoon at her home under the care of her daughters and Hospice of Jefferson County. Madalyne was born on August 15, 1926 in Montvale, N.J. the daughter of Kenneth and Helen Austin Matthews. She lived in various towns in New Jersey and New York and attended Sackets Harbor High School. She married Donald Hess on April 14, 1944 in Fresno, California; while he served in the U.S. Army. For many years Madalyne was the Cafeteria Manager at Sackets Harbor High School and retired in 1984. She is survived by her two daughters, Marie of Sackets Harbor, Mary and her companion David Knight of Chaumont; a sister Elizabeth Bacon of Adams , many nieces and nephews. A son, Michael died in 1951, shortly after birth and her husband in 1986. Madalyne enjoyed watching the birds and deer eat at her bird-feeders. She was an animal lover, taking in stray cats and dogs. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 1757 of Sackets Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Sackets Harbor Fire Dept./ Ambulance Fund. There are no calling hours. Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
