Obituary

Sackets Harbor- MaryAnn Oliver, passed away peaceful in her home surrounded by her family on Monday, January 17 after a long, courageous battle with bone cancer. She had been under the care of Hospice. Born March 28, 1941 to E. Richard and Mary (Mertes) Brown of Syracuse, she attended Eastwood High School. She married Wilfred "Bill" Oliver of Richview, IL in May of 1960. He predeceased her in 1995. She was a Devoted Mother, Loving Grandmother, Wonderful Friend, a Giving Soul and the Epitome of a Volunteer. She was employed by Howard Johnson's and General Electric of Syracuse and later manager of Jefferson Bulk Milk Coop and CAPC in Watertown as well as owner/operator of the Harbor Motel in her beloved Sackets Harbor which she and her husband ran for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she held the title of County Treasurer for several years. She played cards faithfully with the Card Crew as well as a Funny Cide Red Hat member, Treasurer of the Town of Hounsfield Senior Citizens Group, as well as one of Sackets Widow Dinner Club. She was a long time member of Unit 1757 American Legion Auxiliary and up until her death served on the Town of Hounsfield Planning Board. She would never turn anyone away if they were in need. In 2016 she was awarded the Sackets Harbor Senior Citizen of the Year. She is survived by her devoted Son: Kevin, her Daughter-in-law and loving caregiver Dara, their children: Kavanagh WC and Delaney Enya, Stepson: William Carl and Kathy of Red Creek, Granddaughter Melissa Oliver, Great grandson: Tristan Kuryla, Granddaughter: Marcy Gay and Great Granddaughters: Cadence and Haley Gay all of Lake Placid. Sister Brenda and Bryan Solada of Hannibal, several Nieces and Nephews and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Husband and a sister: Patricia Perras. Calling hours for MaryAnn are at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter on Friday 6-8 PM and Saturday 10:30 AM to Noon, followed by a funeral service at Noon at the Funeral Home. A reception luncheon will immediately follow the service at the Sackets Harbor American Legion on Ambrose Street. Burial will be in the spring at the Sackets Harbor Military Cemetery on Dodge Ave. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Legion Riders Post 1757 Military Cemetery Expansion Fund in Maryann's' memory or the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1757 at 209 Ambrose St. Sackets Harbor, NY 13685.
