Obituary

Maurice J. Lapointe, age 87 of Paddy Hill passed away Tuesday afternoon at Country Manor Nursing Home, Carthage where he had been a resident since May of 2009. Maurice was born November 5, 1923 in Watertown the son of Joe and Alice Derosia Lapointe. He attended Brownville- Glen Park High School . He entered the Army in 1943 and served in the Philippines and was discharged in 1945. Maurice married Ellen R. Vrooman on May 29, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville. He worked as a custodian at the Brownville-Glen Park Elementary School until retiring in 1979. Maurice was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Watertown, Past Grand Knight and 4th degree member of K Of C., Dexter American Legion Post 583 and VFW #1400 where he served as commander, chaplain, adjutant of both posts. He was a member of 5th District American Legion Color Guard. Surviving is a son Gerard A. and Donna Lapointe of N. Berwick, Maine and a daughter Mrs. Robert Inday VanEpps of Dexter. He has five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Francis and Lawrence Lapointe and a sister Betty Mount. A funeral mass will be held Monday 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Watertown with Fr. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery with Military Honors. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter with the American Legion service at 7:00 P.M. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross Blood Drive Unit.
