Obituary

Melbetra (Bea) I. Bradberry,born April 17, 1930 in Canton, N.Y. daughter of Edson and Lura Smith Aldous, passed away at her home on Friday, March 21, 2014 under the care of Hospice and surrounded by family. Melbetra graduated from Canton High School in 1948 and the House of Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1951. Most of her nursing career of 40 years was at the House of Good Samaritan, (Now Samaritan Medical Center) and Samaritan Keep Home. She retired from Samaritan Keep Home as a Supervisor in 1992. Melbetra married Edgar A. Bradberry of Iaeger, WV on August 2, 1951 at the Brick Chapel Church in Canton, N.Y. with United States Army chaplain Glenn Pratt officiating. Edgar passed away on October 18, 2013. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Sackets Harbor serving as both an Elder and a Deacon. She was also a member of the Eastern Stars, and was a member and past president of the Hounsfield Senior Citizens. In 1983 she received the Humanitarian of the Year Award. She enjoyed cooking and baking for large groups of people, knitting, reading and listening to music. She is survived by five daughters, Karen (Jeffrey) Strife of Watertown, Susan Chawgo, Nancy Bradberry and Sarah (Zachary) Rogers all of Sackets Harbor, Darcy (Mark) Smith of Fairhaven, N.Y> and two sons, Allen (Cindy) Bradberry of Sandy Creek and Kevin (Michele) Bradberry of Lorraine,N.Y. Three brothers and their wives; Lawrence and Shirley Aldous, Thomas and Eleanor Aldous and Robert and Gail Aldous all of Canton, N.Y. 16 grandkids, 10 great grandkids and several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides her parents and husband she waspredeceased by two sons Edon Bradberry in 1973 and James Bradberry in 1978. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 on Monday March 24th at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, N.Y. with a memorial service on Tuesday March 25th at the United Presbyterian Church of Sackets Harbor at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the American Legion in Sackets Harbor directly after the service. A spring burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Sackets Harbor, Sackets Harbor Fire Dept. or Hospice of Jefferson County in her honor.
