Obituary

Michael J. Jesmer, 57, of 526 Curtis St., Watertown, passed Saturday, January 18 at his home where he was under the care of his loving family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

A funeral mass will be said tentatively Thurs., Jan. 23 at St. Patrick's Church. A prayer service will precede the mass at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.

Entombment at Glenwood Mausoleum will follow.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Weds., Jan. 22 at the funeral home.

Born on March 15, 1956 in Watertown, NY, son of Charles C. Jesmer and Anna M. King, he attended WHS. He later graduated from JCC with an associates degree in computer networking and received a degree in nursing from BOCES.

He married Brenda S. Weaver on May 3, 1974 at Glen Park Fire Hall, with Rev. Toby Schilling officiating.

He worked at Black Clawson as a machinist, for the City of Watertown Pollution Control Center for fifteen years, at Jefferson County Public Health as a LPN for two years, and as a custodian at Indian River Central School District up until he retired in 2011.

He earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do under Master Thomas Tehonica. He enjoyed many things that included playing guitar for the past fifty years, playing with several local bands, was a life long musician with a passion for the Blues, fishing and barbecuing with his family and was a scientist at heart, he was interested in reading and watching documentaries about physics and cosmology.

When Mike was diagnosed in August of 2013 his greatest concern was for his family. He fought a courageous battle to the end.

Among his survivors are his loving wife of 39 years, Brenda S. Jesmer, Watertown; two sons and a daughter in law, Michael J. and Jamie L. Jesmer II, Watertown, Christopher A. Jesmer, Rochester, MN; two brothers and a sister in law, Reginald and Karen Whitton, VA, Ralph Whitton, GA, two sisters, Mary Lee Swallows, FL, Kathy Flemming, Watertown, his mother in law, Eunice Weaver, Watertown; two sisters in law and a brother in law, Ginny and John Johnston, Watertown, Debra Baker, Munnsville, NY; a brother in law, Timothy Weaver and his fiancé, Carrie Ross, Adams; his best friend "brother", Joe Eaves, Black River; several nieces and nephews; three cats, Itty Bitty, Photon, and Jenny; and his faithful dogs, Daisy and Toby.

Three brothers, Robert Whitton, Royal Whitton, Charles Jesmer, two sisters Linda Hamlin, Ruth McGunnis; a sister in law, Donna Whitton, a brother in law, Roland Weaver Jr., a father in law, Roland Weaver Sr. and his best friend and "brother", Robert Bell all passed before him.
