Nancy J. Schofield, 81, passed May 28, 2017 at the Samaritan Summit Village where she had been a resident. Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. The body will be cremated and burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Born on February 20, 1936 in Gouverneur, NY, daughter of the late Glenn B. & Gertrude M. Hilts Johnson, she graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1954. She would later attend JCC in 2002. During high school she worked at W.T. Grant's Department Store in Gouverneur where she would meet Lewis Schofield. She married Lewis Schofield of Gouverneur on January 29, 1955 in the Gouverneur Baptist Church by Lewis's father, Rev. Joseph Schofield Jr., and Rev. William Work. The couple moved to Watertown in 1959. Nancy was a homemaker and later worked for Joann Fabrics as a salesclerk during the 1980's. She also worked at a laundry mat owned by Jerry Milliard in the Northland Plaza in Watertown from 1989-1996. Mr. Schofield worked for "Retail Credit" in 1959 as an insurance investigator. The main office was located in Atlanta Georgia, he worked from the Watertown branch later it became known as Equifax. He retired from there in 1980. The couple has spent the summers since 1969 on Point Salubrious in Chaumont and moved there year around in 1983. The couple moved to Curtis Apartments in 2002. Among her survivors are her husband Lewis A. Schofield of Watertown, NY, three sons and two daughter in laws, Joseph A. Schofield of Tonawanda, NY, Glenn R. & Paula Schofield of Utica, NY, Theodore L. "Ted" and Denise Schofield ofChaumont, NY a daughter, Jane E. Schofield of Watertown, NY, three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, Her twin sister, Sally Hayden of Gouverneur and three more sisters, Lorraine Johnson of Lake Placid, FL, Toni Strife of Ontario, NY, Cynthia Wranesh of Gouverneur, NY. Two daughters Tracie & Rebecca Schofield died in infancy and a brother David G. Johnson died before her.. Mrs. Schofield enjoys quilting, reading, and is a member of the North Country Quilting Guild.
