Nellie Ann Kelley, 92, of 510 West St., Carthage, passed May 10, 2015 at her home where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13th at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 12th at the Bruce Funeral Home, 131 Maple St., Black River.
Born on April 7, 1923, daughter of Giacinto "James" and Lucia Carcasole Cerroni, she graduated from Carthage High School in 1941. Nellie went on to graduate from the Watertown Chamber of Commerce and Pauline's School of Beauty Culture. She later owned and operated her own salon for many years.
She married Charles W. Kelley, who served in the US Army and Navy, in 1947 at St. James Catholic Church. Mr. Kelley died in 1973.
Nellie was the State Regent of the Daughters of Isabella for eight years, President of the VIP Club, an active member of the Red Hat Society, Brady Acres Senior Citizens Club and Communicate of St. James Catholic Church.
She loved to spend time with her family and friends, taking drives in the country, sitting on the porch and basking in the sun, crocheting in her spare time, watching old movies and jitterbugging to the oldies.
Among her survivors are two sons and their wives, Charles W. and Rebecca M. Kelley, Carthage, James and Theresa Kelley, West Carthage; a daughter, Patricia J. Kelley, Carthage; a sister, Phyllis Brown, CO; several grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
