Ralph Edwards Smith, age 83 of Ontario St. Sackets Harbor passed away at his home Sunday 4:45 P.M. Ralph was born June 29, 1926 in Watertown, the son of Earl and Sara Mildred Edwards Smith. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1943, St. Lawrence University, received a BA from Texas Western College, a MA from University of Texas at El Paso, Masters in Education also from UTEP. He served in the Army in 1945 until 1946, re-entered the military in 1959 and served in Korea where he was commissioned, later served in Viet Nam and retired from the Army in 1969 as a Major. From 1969-1988 he was a Social Studies teacher at Eastwood High School in El Paso. He was a member of American Legion Post 61 of Watertown, VFW Post 1400 Watertown, Elks Lodge 1081 of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons Camp Knox Lodge 919 Radcliff, Kentucky. He is survived by friends Sharon Thornber and Mark Blackwell both of Sackets Harbor, N.Y. A graveside service will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m. at Pierce Cemetery, Fargo, N.Y. with the Rev.
