Obituary

Raymond R."Spike" Anderson, 64, of Dexter, passed December 2, 2016 in Watertown. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 5 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown. The Watertown Elks Lodge #496 will be holding an Elks Memorial Service Monday, 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 6 at the funeral home followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church.  Military Honors will take place at the church following the Mass. He was born on November 7, 1952 in Warren, PA, son of Raymond R. and Mary Hotchkiss Anderson. He graduated from Arch Bishop Walsh High School in Olean, NY in 1970 and graduated from St. Bonaventure University ROTC program with a Bachelor's Degree in History.  During college he was a decorated swimmer. He entered the US Army in 1974 and served in Desert Storm.  He retired with an honorable discharge in 1994.  During this time he received his Masters Degree in Business and Administration and Teaching. Following his military career he taught a short time at IHC and LaFargeville, was a substitute teacher for many years and worked at Home Depot in the human resources department for four years. Ray refereed for the Jeff- Lewis Girls and Boys Basketball, Soccer, Swimming, Volleyball and Softball Association for several years; he umpired for the local men's softball league and was the announcer for the Red & Black home football games.  He loved playing basketball, volleyball, swimming and skiing. Among his survivors are his loving wife, Dana L. Anderson, Dexter; his daughter and son in law, Justine H. and James R. Budowski, East Aurora, NY; a sister and  brother in law, Laureen and Joe McCarthy, Olean, NY, a brother and sister in law, Dr. Galvin and Sheryl Anderson, Olean, NY; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Teddy.
