Obituary

Richard C. Adams, age 76 of Moffet rd., Dexter passed away Friday evening at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown. Richard had been a resident there for four and a half years and passed away after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. Richard was born June 1, 1931 on the family farm on Pillar Point. He attended school at Woodheads Corners on Pillar Point and graduated from Dexter High School in 1948. Richard married Patricia M. Mullin on May 28, 1950 at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Dexter and the couple lived on Pillar Point all their married lives. The couple owned and operated a farm on Pillar Point until their barn burned. Richard was also a bus-driver and became Transportation Supervisor for General Brown Central High School from 1955 until retiring in 1976 due to disability from multiple sclerosis. Richard was a 53 year member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Dexter and past trustee and elder of the church. He was also a 50 year member of Dexter Lodge 1072 F. 7A.M. and had served as master and received the Distinguished Service Award in 2002. He was also a member of Jeff-Lewis Square Club, Pillar Point Hustlers 4-H Club as a youth, 4-H Council and attended Club Congress as well as judging cattle throughout the state. He showed cattle at Jefferson County Fair for many years and was chosen with his cousin Leon Timerman to tour the country with Elsie the Bordens Cow, Elmer and their children Beulah and Beauregard. During those tours they attended State Fairs, many parades, The Good Housekeeping Institute, ball games, Department Stores and in 1953 Elsie and Beauregard were in Watertown for the Dairyland Festival Parade and stayed at the Woodruff Hotel. Richard also taught tractor safety maintenance courses and was very active in the Jeff-Lewis Support Group for Multiple Sclerosis. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed building things like the family home. Richard is survived by his wife Patricia and three children and their spouses- Michael R. and Josephine Adams of Dexter, Debbie Adams-Kaden and her husband James of Huntington Station, N.Y., and Susan Haller and her husband Donald of Dexter. His grandchildren John Adams and wife Rachelle, Chris Adams and wife Michele, Serena Adams, William Kaden and wife Abigail, James Kaden, Seth and Emily Haller and 2 great grandchildren Rebeka Adams and Preston Richard. A sister Barbara Adams of Cortland survives and he was predeceased by a brother Raymond Adams in 2003 and their parents Niles and Florence Adams. A funeral service will be held Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter with the Rev. Gail Parsons of 1st Presbyterian Church of Dexter officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery following cremation. Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 with a Masonic Service held at 7:30 P.M. Donations may be made to 1st Presbyterian Church of Dexter, Masonic Brotherhood Fund or the Charity of Ones Choice in lieu of flowers.
