Obituary

Richard W. Hilts, 58 of 14234 Case Rd., Chaumont, NY, died Wednesday 6:45 a.m. at his home. He had been under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. Richard was born August 12, 1949 in Watertown, the son of Arthur V. and Blanche Swain Hilts Sr. He graduated from Lyme Central School and served in the Army during Viet Nam War and was discharges as a Sp4. He married Maureen A. Peters on November 3, 1973 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Dexter. The couple has lived on the Case Rd. all their married lives. He worked at Brownville Paper Mill which became Fibermark Paper until he became ill as a papermaker. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed restoring old tractors and was a farming enthusiast. He is survived by his wife Maureen and two children, Mrs. Timothy Michelle M. Gentry of Depauville and Darren J. Hilts at home. A grandson Joshua R. Gentry, his father Arthur Hilts Sr. of Chaumont and the following brothers and sisters also survive; Arthur Hilts Jr. , Mark Hilts , Bruce and Bethany Hilts all of Chaumont and Sharon Chambers of Watertown, Linda Henderson of Lafargeville and Mrs. Christopher Robin Sayyeau of Chaumont, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter with Fr. Kevin O'Brien pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County or the Dexter Ambulance Squad.
