Rita Mae Cring, age 88 of S. Broad St. Sackets Harbor, N.Y. passed away Monday evening at her home under the care of her family. Rita was born October 30, 1922 in Harrisville, the daughter of Charles and Bertha Desrosier Baker. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Harrisville High School. She married Kenneth Cring on June 25, 1940 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Harrisville. Rita was a Teachers' Aide at Sackets Harbor Central School for 17 years and retired in 1995. The couple lived in Harrisville, Waterloo and then Sackets Harbor. Mr. Cring died in 1999. She was a member of St. Andrews Altar and Rosary Society and Sackets Harbor American Legion Auxiliary for 43 years. She is survived by the following children and their spouses: Kenneth C. and Sue Cring of Malone, Bonnie and Peter Phillips of Sackets Harbor, Suellen and Terry Youmans of Murrells Inlet, S. Carolina, Kay and Larry Shultz of Adams Center, Lois Dennis of Hamburg, Harold and Stephanie Cring of Sackets Harbor, Howard and Carmen Cring of Cicero, Teresa Feller of Everett, Washington , Lawrence Cring of Watertown and Dawn and Sam DeFranco of Katy, Texas. She also has 42 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Gerard Cring in 1993 and siblings Mary Dusharm, Francis "Buck " Baker, Eva Farr, Bernard Baker, Jean Lake, Maurice Baker and Gerald Baker. Funeral services will be Friday June 17th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Church in Sackets Harbor with Fr. Kevin O'Brien and Fr. Douglas Comstock co-celebrating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Calling hours will be June 16th at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Donations may be made to St. Andrew Altar and Rosary Society or the Sackets Harbor Hay Memorial Library.
