Robert E. Harmann of Dexter, NY passed away, from complications with prostate cancer, on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at home with his loving family at his side. Robert was born in Reading, Ohio and was a 1955 graduate of Loveland High School where for four years he lettered in four sports. Upon being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he began his retail career with Sears & Roebuck, Watertown, NY. He continued his retail career in the specialty retail arena and in 1985 became President of Retail Recruiters in New York City, successfully running the business for the next 20 years. In 2005, he and his wife retired to Dexter, NY where they renovated a Victorian home that became the Dexter 1855 House Bed and Breakfast. A skilled and accomplished athlete, Robert signed with a professional baseball team but decided to attend Wilmington College, Wilmington, Ohio. He studied for one year before enlisting in the Air Force for four years. While at Dry Hill Air Force base, he played on the Watertown Red and Black Semi -Pro Football team and in 1991 was selected as Loveland High School's 1950's Athlete of the Decade. He belonged to the Village of Dexter's Planning Board and was a member of the Dexter American Legion and Watertown Elks. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deborah Klem Harmann, his two sisters Joan Robinson and Margie Shenk, sister-in-law Victoria Harmann, his three daughters, Deborah Cashara, Michelle Lannoti and Norma Jean Marshall, five grandchildren, Anthony Lannoti, Michael Marshall and fiance Catherine Blomquist, Jamie Marshall, Jessica Marshall, Evelyn Cashara and Nathaniel Cashara and two great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews, Karen Harmann, Mark Harmann, Lori Shenk, Danny and David Robinson, Michael Vince Harmann, Vicki Shenk, Brian and Katherine Harmann, Grant Shenk, Diana Harmann and Zoe Harmann. A Celebration of the Life of Robert E Harmann will be held at the Dexter 1855 House Bed and Breakfast for one and all to attend Tuesday, September 10, 2013 located at 414 Brown Street Dexter, NY 13634 at 4:00 to 6:00PM.
