Obituary

Robert E. Gorgen, 91, of 1604 Ohio Street, Watertown, passed December 2, 2014 at his home.

Born on May 8, 1923 in Watertown, NY, son of the late Dale E. and Dorothy M. LaMora Gorgen, he graduated from West Carthage High School in 1941.  During school he was a Super Scout and a Senior Patrol Leader.

He entered the US Army in 1941 and was honorably discharged on May 24, 1944.  Following his honorable discharge he attended Syracuse University where he studied Forestry.  He then went to apprentice ship school for plumbing and heating for 4 years in Watertown.

He married Jeanette Piper of Theresa, NY on October 4, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Robert Young's

Mr. Gorgen worked at Ryan's Plumbing and Heating, G.H. Hydes Plumbing & Heating and Derouin's Plumbing & Heating.  He started in construction as a plumber & steamfitter all over NYS. In Oswego he worked at all three Atomic Plants, on missile bases up in Plattsburgh and his last job was at Fort Drum where he assisted with the construction of the Infirmary, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the United Association of Plummer & Steamfitters, Past President of the Local Union Plumbers & Steamfitters, a life member of the American Legion Post 61 for over 65 years, former President of the Watertown Archery Club ( one of the first in the city), member of the Watertown Pluming Board for 9 years, member of the Highland Meadows Golf Club and Over the Hill Gang, member of the Stone Presbyterian Church and was Super Senior Club Champion in 1998 at Willow Brook Golf Course.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, basketball, and canoeing.

Among his survivors are two grandchildren, Terri Storino and her husband Frank, Watertown and Steven Gorgen and his wife Erin, DePauville; four great grandchildren, Taylor, Kaela, Troy and Kelsey; a great great grandson, Graysin; a sister, Jean Yates, Watertown; nieces and nephews.

His wife Jeannette, a son Timothy M. Gorgen and a brother, John F. Gorgen all passed before him.

A funeral service will be held Noon Friday, December 5th at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown.  Burial with military honors will follow at the Brookside Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to Noon on Friday, December 5th at the funeral home.
