Obituary

Russell J. Ruttan Sr. passed away peacefully on February 5, 2015 while under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm. Our heartfelt Thanks go out to the staff for the wonderful care of our Dad. Russell was born September 4, 1924 in Watertown, N.Y. son of Harry Ruttan and Myrtle Smith Ruttan. In 1945 he married Alliceson E. Stanford Ruttan at the Methodist Church in Watertown, N.Y. He was a member of Stone Mills United Methodist Church. Russell operated his Father's Farm on Route 180 Watertown, N.Y. for many years. He trucked cattle, hauled milk for other farmers and also had a septic tank service. Russell was a member of Perch River Grange, Pamona Grange, and a member of Stone Mills Museum. In the 60's he organized "record hops" for the young people of the Grange and community. Other hobbies were bicycle repair/ restoring old tractors. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus along with his friend James Riches and giving candy to the children of Stone Mills, LaFargeville and Perch River areas. He and his wife visited Madonna Home as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. He is survived by 4 children. Gloria J. White of LaFargeville, Brenda J. (Alvin) Baker of Watertown, Stuart J. (Lynne) Ruttan of Watertown, and Russell J. (Angela) Ruttan Jr. of Watertown. His brother Ralph Ruttan of Brownville, 9 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 2 Step Great Grandchildren, companion of 10 years Betty Robbins and many nieces and nephews. His wife Alliceson E. Ruttan predeceased him in 2000. He was also predeceased by 2 sisters Elsie Wilder and Lola Brown and also 4 brothers Carlice Ruttan, Floyd Ruttan, Robert Ruttan and Harold Ruttan. The calling hours will be February 22 at 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. at the Stone Mills Mehodistt Church prior to the Memorial Service at 2 P.M. , Pastor Don Briant officiating. Funeral arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter, N.Y. Burial will be in the spring at Perch River Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be at the Agape House LaFargeville, N.Y. following the services from 4-6 where the Family and Friends share memories and tributes and refreshments.
