ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. — Ruth E. Mack, 85, a lifelong resident of Alexandria Bay, passed Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, Watertown. A memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown, with Pastor Jeff McIlrath of the Reformed Church of the Thousand Islands officiating. Calling hours will precede the memorial service 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Highland Park Cemetery in Alexandria Bay. Born Aug. 20, 1929, in Alexandria Bay, the daughter of Leon and Lorena Ely Swart, she graduated from Alexandria Central School. She then attended the Watertown Business School of Commerce where she received her accounting degree. She married Carl Mack on May 8, 1947. He passed Nov. 21, 2003. The couple resided in Watertown where she worked as an accountant at a local attorney's office for ten years. They moved to Alexandria Bay in 1954 where she worked for Western Union at Gurger's Hotel for a short time. She commuted to Watertown where she worked at Guardino's Canada Dry on Factory St. for over twenty years. She then worked for Dave Roger's Marine in Alex Bay for ten years. She was a caregiver and resident manager at the resident house for the Community Center for Alcoholism for ten years, retiring in 1989. Following her retirement she returned to work as an accountant at AMO's Tax Service for twenty years, retiring in 2009. Mrs. Mack was a member of the Navy Auxiliary and Rebecca Lodge in Alexandria Bay for several years during the 60s and 70s. Among her survivors are a daughter, Kathy L. Verne, North Las Vegas, NV; a son, Kevin C. Mack, Watertown; two grandchildren, Kelly Busler and Teddy House; five great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
