SSG Shawn P. McCann, 32, of 770 West Main St., Watertown, NY, passed September 2, 2014 at his home where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.  Shawn was diagnosed with leukemia in November of 2012 and has fought a courageous fight.

Born on October 3, 1981 in Memphis, TN, son of Charles and Linda (Norris) McCann, he graduated from Edward H. White High School in 2001.

He entered the US Army in Florida on August 15, 2001 and served a tour of duty in Afghanistan, two in Iraq, and an overseas tour in Germany.  He received the Purple Heart in 2009 among several other medals.

He married Jennifer V. White of Port Angeles, Washington on July 21, 2007 in Jacksonville, FL.  The couple has been stationed at Fort Drum since October of 2009.

Among his survivors are his loving wife, Jennifer V. McCann, Watertown; two sons, Shane P. (5) and Zealand L. (2); his parents, Charles and Linda McCann, Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Kelly McCann, Douglasville, GA; two nephews, Luke and Jack Whitcomb and his maternal grandfather, Harold Norris, Jacksonville, FL.

Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown.  Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept 5 at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will take place at Oceanview Cemetery in Port Angeles, Washington.
