Shirley A. Savage 75, passed away Saturday morning at 4:22 her home on Lakeview Dr. Dexter. She was under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and her loving family. Shirley was born in Watertown on September 14, 1935, the daughter of Robert J. and Florence A. Dodge Purvis. She graduated from Watertown High. She is the granddaughter of Emmet and Nellie Dodge from Grindstone Island . She married Robert K. Savage on December 6, 1968 at the Dexter Methodist church. She went to work for Fay's Department store where she was the assistant manager of the sporting goods department. She retired in April of 2000 after 25 years of service. Shirley was a member of the Dexter Volunteer Fire Department, Dexter Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and she was Captain of the Dexter Ambulance Squad . Shirley was paramount in updating the Dexter Ambulance Squad. Shirley is survived by her husband- Robert K. 4 daughters-Mrs. Robert (Lou Anne) Stone ,Richland Mrs. Thomas (Jackie) Spencer, Sackets Harbor Mrs. Scott (Gail) Alexander, Copenhagen and Ruth Ann Savage, Florida. 2 Sons - Mr. Randy Hutton, Virginia Beach and adopted son Alec Savage,Dexter.12 Grandchildren and17 Great Grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews, 2 Sisters- Mrs. Joseph( Patricia )LaHair ,Gainesville Florida and Mrs. Norman (Sandra) Yott, Watertown 4 Brothers predeceased her - Raymond ,Richard ,Donald and James Purvis. Shirley also leaves behind her loving and faithful dog " Rusty". She also enjoyed camping and fishing. A memorial service will be held Saturday June 18, 2011 from 2 to 4 at the Dexter Fire Dept, Dexter. A reception will follow the memorial service. Graveside Service will be at 2 p.m . Sunday June 19,2011 in the Dexter Cemetery with Rev. Leon VanWie, pastor o f Asbury Methodist Church, officiating. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Dexter Fire Dept. or Hospice of Jefferson County.
