April 16, 1926 – June 10, 2016
Shirley Catherine Babcock, 29747 Burnup Road, Black River passed peacefully June 10, 2016 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Larry Bowman of Black River surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years of age.
Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home of Black River. There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the family's convenience. Interment will be at Black River Cemetery.
Born April 16, 1926 in Richville N.Y., daughter of Eugene and Bessie Morrow. She graduated in Richville where she was valedictorian of her class of 12 close friends.
She married Maurice A. Babcock on June 15, 1946 at the Central Church Of Christ with the Reverend Henry W. Gair officiating. Mr. Babcock died October 26, 2008.
She attended Watertown Business School shortly after graduation, and then started her career in the secretarial field. She gave up her career to become a full time mother and homemaker. Her life was devoted to her family. She was a prior communicate and Sunday school teacher at Black River Baptist Church.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, fishing and camping with family and friends. She enjoyed baseball and was an avid Mets fan.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Larry Bowman of Black River, Susan and Mace Bammann of Texas, Three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lynn and Victoria Babcock of Copenhagen, Robert and Deanna Babcock of Black River, and Douglas Babcock of Black River. Ten grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Two brothers Eugene and Carlton Morrow, a sister Joyce Tiernan, twin grandchildren Tammy Lynn and Teresa Ann Bowman died before her.
In her memory, donations may be made in her name to Hospice Of Jefferson County. The family wish to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Hospice for the love and care Shirley received in her final stage of life, and the support they extended to her family.
