Shirley A. Kennedy, 80, of Watertown, NY, passed away October 28, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born on October 21, 1934 in Marysville, Ohio to the late Louis and Francis Thiergartner Rausch.
She married Bruce D. Kennedy on February 3, 1956. Bruce passed away on February 17, 1974.
In June 1981 she fell in love with her lifelong companion John C. Hall. Shirley and John lived happily in Watertown until his passing on December 13, 2011.
Shirley began in the work force early in her life. She worked in two different factories and Woolworths. She then took time off to raise her family. In 1968 she came to New York with her husband and children. Shortly after, she and Bruce purchased Truhan's Motel in Felts Mills, NY where she continued to live and manage until she sold it in 1986. After that she went to work for Sears Department Store until her retirement.
Shirley loved to play cards, bingo and gamble at the casinos. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grand children. And most of all she loved riding her tractor whether it was mowing her lawn or snow – blowing her driveway.
Shirley is survived by her daughter and son in law, Toni D. and Frederick O'Connell, Calcium; two sons and their wives, Terence D. and Tatia Kennedy, Theresa, NY, Todd D. and Sheila Kennedy, Black River; eight grandchildren, Erin O'Connell and her fiancé Todd Kiechle II, Megan and Nathan Cole, Lindsey O'Connell and her fiancé Timothy Heath, Samuel Kennedy, Jared Kennedy and Nathan Kennedy, Taryn Kennedy and her fiancé Derrick Leonard and Seth Kennedy; three great grandchildren, Teagan and Vivian Cole and Zander Kiechle as well as a niece, nephew and two great nieces.
Along with her parents Louis and Francis, husband Bruce and companion John, Shirley is also predeceased by an infant daughter, Teresa K. Kennedy and two sisters, Betty Hughes and Jeanette Garton.
Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown. There will be no calling hours. The funeral will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
