Sonja "Tonie" Evangeline Rutherford of 13811 Co. Rte. 63, Adams, passed January 3, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 6 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 5 at the funeral home.
Born on December 9, 1936 in Watertown, NY, daughter of Jeremiah and Rosina (Bush) Pharoah, she attended Watertown schools.
She married Donald W. Rutherford on October 22, 1960 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Watertown.
Tonie was a seamstress for over 25 years and a homemaker her entire life. Throughout her lifetime Tonie had many interests. In her younger days she would go camping with her husband and children, she enjoyed fishing, berry and apple picking and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Every holiday feast took place in her home. Tonie was an avid crafter and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, paper crafting, wood working and making floral arrangements. She especially enjoyed bird watching.
Besides her parents, Tonie is predeceased by six sisters; Mary (Jimmy) Marino, Thelma (Zeke) Flavin, Leta Goodridge, Jane (Happy) Monica, Rose (Hank) Letourneau, Doris (Howard) Hall and two brothers, James (Dorothy) Pharoah and David (Gladys) Pharoah.
Surviving besides her husband, Donald, is a sister, Elsie (Bud) Jobson; six children; Amy Rutherford, Adams, Lori Rutherford, Watertown, Debbie Rutherford, Watertown, Irene ( Dale) Adams, Dover, TN, Carol (Rick) Kohl, Adams Center, Donald S. (Sonmi) Rutherford, Watertown; 9 grandchildren, William (Chelsea) Hazelton, Megan (Andrew) Martin, David ( Ricky) Kohl, Thomas LeRoux, Ashley Hazelton, Brenna Berkey, Donald Seth Rutherford, Asia Rutherford, Cheyenne Adams; 8 great grandchildren, Tatum Sharpe, Vincent and Cameron Workman, Zoey and Zane Gardner, Connor and Chase Hazelton and Chance Bumpus.
Donations may be made to the Smithville Fire Department or Hospice of Jefferson County.
