BLACK RIVER, N.Y. — Susan C. "Sue" O'Brien, 74, of 135 West St., Black River, passed Monday, Dec. 7, at her home where she was surrounded by family. Born Aug. 25, 1941, daughter of Andrew McLean and Anna Noone, she attended Black River School, and Immaculate Heart Academy. She married Jackie N. O'Brien, of Kansas, on March 20, 1974 in Felts Mills. The marriage was blessed at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in 1984. Mrs. O'Brien's vocation and passion was caring for children in her home since 1966. She and her husband were foster parents for Catholic Charity's for several years. During that time they fostered 45 babies. Among her survivors are her loving and devoted husband, Jackie N. O'Brien, Black River; three sons and two daughters in law, Patrick J. McLean, Chicago, James A. and Lisa Beyor, Carthage, Andrew P. and Lori O'Brien, Wisconsin; two daughters and a son in law, Naomi Beyor, Black River , Pamela S. and John Murtha, Black River; a brother, William Mclean, Black River ;and ten grandchildren McLean Beyor, Taylor Murtha ,Tyler Beyor, Megan and Madison Beyor, Hannah, Dawson , Owen, Luke and Breleigh O'Brien and several nieces and nephews. A brother, James Mclean and a sister, Esther Alley died before her. She was a member of the Black River American Legion Auxiliary, communicant of St. Paul's Catholic Church and a past member of the Alter & Rosary Society. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing for families and friends. Calling hours will 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Bruce Funeral Home, Black River. A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Black River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson Co., 1398 Gotham St. Watertown, NY, the Black River Ambulance Squad, 121 LeRay St., Black River, NY, or St. Paul's Catholic Church, 208 LeRay St., Black River, N Y.
