Obituary

Vera Doreen Gurton, age 82 formerly of Dexter passed away at Riverside Hospital, Alexandria Bay. She had been a patient there since November of 2006. Vera was born February 6, 1925 in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada the daughter of Irwin and Gwenytha Peters Wedlock. She was married to Gerrard Delaney in April of 1942 and that marriage ended; she was later married to Russell Gurton in 1956. She lived in California for several years where she worked for the Office of the Aging and moved back to Watertown and Dexter in 1995. She was a member of St. Catherine's Church in Riverside, California where she taught religious education at St. Catherine's Elementary School, was a lector for three years All Saints Roman Catholic Church and Catholic Women's League in Peterborough. She is survived by sons and their spouses David and Wendy Delaney of Hamilton, Ontario, Wayne and Catherine Delaney of Belleville, Ontario, Kenneth Gurton of Houston, Texas, a step son Reggie Gurton of Kitchener, Ontario, and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She also has a brother Norman Wedlock of Peterborough and a sister Marjorie Rabetheg of Kitchener. She also has several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Melvin Delaney. A memorial service will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m. at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Alexandria Bay. She will be cremated. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
