Obituary

Wayne C. Messick, age 69 of TenEyck St. Watertown passed away at 5:25 A.M. Wednesday morning at the home of his son Wayne on Willowbrook Dr. He had been under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. Wayne was born November 17, 1938 in Salisbury, Maryland. He was the son of Ralph T. and Kathleen L. Bovee Messick. He attended school in Delaware and joined the Air Force on September 14, 1956. He was trained in electronics and retired from the Air Force in 1977. While serving in the military he was stationed at Clarke Air Force Base in the Philippines and was sent to Viet Nam in 1970. He later worked as a civilian contractor installing radar and communications systems on nuclear submarines for General Dynamics at Groton, CT. for the US Navy. He also worked for Lockheed Martin in Connecticut and Rhode Island where his primary duty was maintenance of nuclear submarine training simulators for the US Navy. He retired in 1977 and returned to Watertown shortly after. A marriage to Barbara Pickett in 1959 in Watertown at All Souls Universalist Church ended in divorce in 1960. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 4608 in Ledyard, CT. Surviving is his son and his wife Wayne and Sue Messick of Watertown and a daughter and her husband Lucille and Peter Keohane of Dexter and a daughter Melissa Henry of Glen Park. He also has five grandchildren and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be held Friday 2:00 P.M. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Burial will be in the Military Cemetery at Sackets Harbor with military honors by the U.S. Air Force. There are no calling hours.
