Obituary

Wilbur G. Munk, 81 passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 12th at home in Three Mile Bay. Wilbur was born on March 26, 1930 in Watertown, the son of the late Wilbur H. Munk and Margaret Munk. Wilbur attended Watertown Schools and entered the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey. While serving in the Navy, Wilbur visited ports in England, Japan and Portugal. On April 21, 1951 Wilbur married his only love, Betty Jean Thompson in a ceremony in Dexter, N.Y. with Mr. Walter LaBelle and the late Thelma Thompson, sister of the bride. Betty Jean Munk passed away September 8, 1975. Wilbur enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family. Wilbur is survived by his son Charles A. (Dawn) Munk, Deborah L. (Bayne) White, Kimberly J. (Scott) Mussot, Sherri L. (Dan) Marsh, 5 granddaughters, 4 grandsons and 2 great grandchildren. Wilbur is also survived by his brother Richard Munk of Pt. Peninsula and his sister Coraline Walts of Syracuse, several nieces and nephews. Wilbur is predeceased by his brothers Charles, George and Andrew Munk and 1 sister Joan Perry. Throughout his life, Wilbur a hard worker, worked as a newsboy for the Watertown Daily Times before entering the U.S. Navy and eventually settling into a long career in Highway Construction. Contributions can be made to the United Methodist Church in Three Mile Bay in Wilbur Monks' Honor. Funeral services will be Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter with Rev. Mark Pierce of Three Mile Bay United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9.
