Betty J. Brett

Betty J. Brett, 88 of Watertown, a dedicated nurse and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on November 23,1934, in Lisbon, New York, the daughter of Clarence R. and Bernice I. (Day)Wood. She graduated in 1952 from Ogdensburg Free Academy. Betty’s commitment to care led her to attend St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center School of Nursing and graduated in 1955 with her RN.

After graduating she began work at The House of the Good Samaritan in Watertown working on the 4Th floor. In 1987, Betty went to work for Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she was a nurse manager on the third floor until her retirement in 2000.

Betty left behind a legacy of care and kindness. Her unwavering love for family echoed in every heartbeat, a testament to a life beautifully lived. May her healing touch and warm embrace resonate in our hearts forever.

She married William J. Brett in 1956. He passed away in 2010.

She is survived by a son William P. Brett, Adams Center, three daughters: Patti (Thomas) Foley, Plainfield, Illinois. Beth Jernigan, Inverness, Florida, and Kathy (Tom) Frears, Pillar Point. 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings: Wallace Wood, Larry Wood, Shirley Brashaw and Sally West.

She is predeceased by her husband, William, a grandson, William J. Brett, a sister Brenda Wood and four brothers: Robert (Vic), Gerald, Donald, and Douglas Wood.

In addition to her deep love for family, Betty extended her heart and welcomed many into her family.  Her generosity and caring spirit touched the lives of many beyond her immediate family.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Diane, Juliet and the staff at Samaritan Keep Home.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 N. Massey St. Watertown. A calling hour will also be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. until noon.

A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the funeral home at Noon. A private burial will take place Monday in Lisbon.
