Brenda A. Fisk

Brenda A. Fisk, 60, of Watertown, NY, passed away unexpectedly in her home on February 18, 2024.

Born on November 29, 1963, in Watertown, NY, she was the daughter of the late David Fisk and Evelyn (Nason) Bevens.

Brenda’s passion for animals led her to pursue a career as a veterinarian technician at Canton A.T.C. and she earned a degree from State University of New York College in Environmental Sciences and Forestry.  Brenda dedicated her life to caring for animals, a commitment that was evident during her tenure as a zookeeper at the New York State Thompson Park Zoo, where she worked diligently until 2023 when a back injury forced her to retire.

A marriage to Joseph Zaphian ended in divorce.  Following the divorce Brenda returned to Watertown from New Jersey.

Brenda cherished spending time with her family and was an avid reader.  Brenda was known for her thoughtfulness.  She was first to check in on friends and family in times of need.  She was also the first to acknowledge birthdays and anniversaries.  

Surviving are her mother Evelyn Bevens of Watertown, NY, a brother and sister-in-law David “DJ” and Tammy Fisk of Carriere, MS, a sister and brother-in-law Toni and Marvin Fox of Tucson, AZ, a sister and brother-in-law Tricia and Brian Nortz of Dexter, NY, a brother John Fisk of Williamsville, NY, two stepmothers, Kay Chapman of Three Mile Bay, NY, and Charlene Fisk of Watertown, NY, four step siblings, Jeffery Bevens of Evans Mills, NY, June Tolbert of Dover, PA, Joanne Kaune of Dover, PA, and James Bevens of Spartanburg, SC, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father David Fisk in 2008 and her stepfather John Bevens in 2022.

Arrangements are being made with the Hart and Bruce Funeral Home.

In honor of Brenda’s lifelong dedication to animals, donations may be made in her memory to the SPCA or the New York State Thompson Park Zoo.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 24th in Brookside Cemetery.
