Diane Lamon Obituary

Diane E. Lamon, 65, of Dexter, New York, passed away suddenly on November 3, 2023, at her home. 

She was born on November 30, 1957, in Watertown, New York, daughter of Gilbert and Marion Walrath Lamon. Diane graduated from General Brown High School in 1975 and later attended SUNY Potsdam, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1979. She began her teaching career at Fillmore High School in Fillmore, New York, for her first year before moving to Immaculate Heart Central (IHC) for five years. From 1985 until her retirement, she served as a dedicated math teacher at Thousand Islands High School, all while pursuing her master’s degree in education. Even in retirement, Diane continued to contribute her knowledge by substituting and tutoring for many years. 

She cherished her summers at her cottage on Pillar Point, where she enjoyed the company of numerous friends and family. Diane had a passion for crocheting, reading, diamond art, wood burning, making chocolates at Christmastime, and playing cards. Diane was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brownville, where she actively participated in the vestry and served as co-treasurer. Most recently, she was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Watertown. 

She is survived by her two sisters and brother-in-law, Anita L. and Mark DeVito of Dexter, New York, and Rae Lee Lamon of Dexter, New York, as well as her sister-in-law, Lee Ann Lamon, of PA and a brother-in-law, Herb Adams of Kansas; 7 nieces and nephews, Heather and Shawn Harvey, Hollie and Collin Mellon, William and Shannan Adams, Kristen and Dave Marks, Haley Lamon, Sarah and Vincent Alimenti and Kyle Lamon, 10 great nieces and nephews, her beloved cat Sinatra and many very close and endearing friends many of whom she considered family. 

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Mark Lamon, and her sister, Michelle Adams. 

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter. 

A funeral service to celebrate Diane’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Watertown. A celebration of life will follow at the Dexter American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dexter Fire Department.

Diane will be remembered for her dedication to education, her love of family and friends, and her passion for various creative pursuits. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
