Elizabeth A. Funnell, 91,of Watertown, NY passed away February 10, 2024 at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home.
Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 24th at Parkside Bible Church. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church.
Born on September 25, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio, daughter John and Rosina (Lutsch) Schneider, she graduated from Watertown High school in 1950. During high school she was a member of the National Honor Society and took commercial courses.
Following school she worked for Robert Wood an accountant in Watertown as a bookkeeper. While working for him she studied accounting and continued to take commercial courses. She worked at the Watertown Daily Times as a bookkeeper for four years. She worked 16 years for John Weekes and Sons as an accountant and 15 years as an accountant for the Henry Keep Home, retiring in 1987.
She married John M. Sprague on June 21, 1953 at the Hope Presbyterian Church in Watertown. Mr. Sprague died on October 5, 1995.
She married Roger W. Funnell on October 17, 1998 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Black River. Mr. Funnell was principal at the Ohio, Knickerbocker, Sherman, Meade, Wiley, and Starbuck Schools. He retired from the Watertown City School System in January of 1997. He died September 26, 2021.
Among her survivors are a son and daughter in law, John M. and Kathleen Sprague Jr., Glen Park, NY; two grandsons, Jordan Sprague and his girlfriend Katrina Pacola, CA and Kyle Sprague, Glen Park, NY; three step sons, Roger Funnell of Watertown, Douglas (Tracy) Funnell and their son Noah of Syracuse, and Matthew and Deborah Funnell and their children Jessica and Kevin all of Hopewell Junction, NY, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her two beloved husbands, John Sprague and Roger Funnell, a brother John Schneider and a sister, Rose Corbett died before her.
Mrs. Funnell was a former member of the North Country Artists Guild and longtime member of the North Country Quilting Guild. She was a well known quilt artist winning many awards with her quilts depicting landscapes.
She is a member if the Parkside Bible Church.
