John Allen Obituary

John “Jay” Allen, 54, of 310 W Kirby St., Dexter, NY passed away August 26, 2021 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY. 

Born on April 5, 1967 in Watertown, NY, son of John J. and Carol C. Singleton (Allen), he attended Indian River Central School.  He graduated in 1985. 

He worked construction for various companies in the local area for all of his adult life and was most well-known for specializing in sheet rock and drywall services.  

He enjoyed watching sports and old western movies, he loved fishing and spending time with friends and family.  Jay was funny, quick-witted, hard-working and compassionate. He loved his family and friends, and he gave to those in need. 

Among his survivors are a son, Justin John Allen, North Carolina, his mother and adoptive father, Larry and Carol Allen, Watertown; three brothers and a sister in law, William "Bill" Kehoe, Sandy Creek,  Lawrence Allen, Southwick, Massachusetts, Richard "Rick" (Sara) Allen, Watertown; aunts, uncles and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was predeceased by his father, John J. Singleton. 

Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.  There will be no services or calling hours.  However, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 11thfrom 2pm-6pm at the Brownville American Legion. Friends and family are encouraged to join us, and tell stories of good times.  Food and non-alcoholic beverages provided, alcoholic beverages can be purchased at the bar.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
