Mary C. Tapley

Mary Cecilia Tapley, 83, formerly of Watertown, New York, peacefully passed away at Rome Hospital on February 15, 2024. Mary spent the last two years as a  resident at The Grand in Rome. 

Born on January 21, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mary was the daughter of Theodore and Marie (Nolan) Smith. She graduated from Sicilian Academy in Philadelphia in 1958 before relocating to Watertown, where she married Robert Tapley on September 26, 1964. Mary dedicated herself to her work, spending years employed by the Watertown Times from 1959 to 1967, and later with MLS Cleaning Service out of Pennaville, New York,  cleaning doctor’s offices in Watertown and retiring in 2015.

Among her survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea L. and Eric Barrows, of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren: Yndia V. Barrows-Walker, of Washington; Cheyenne A. Barrows, of San Antonio, Texas; Joshua Hall, of Carthage, New York; and Cordell Tapley, of Tennessee. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Debbie Smith, of Huntsville, Alabama; two half-sisters, Mary Ann Ball, of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, and Joan Cross, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

Preceding her in death are her beloved husband, Robert Tapley, and her son, Sean M. Tapley. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hart & Bruce Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery.
