Nichole Johnston Obituary

Nichole M. Johnston, 40, of Watertown, New York, passed away suddenly on November 8, 2023, at her home.

She was born on December 3, 1982, in Watertown, New York, the beloved daughter of Thomas A. and Deborah L. Vandermill Johnston, Jr. She graduated from Watertown High School in 2001 with honors and played basketball and softball during her high school years. Nichole then pursued her education at Jefferson Community College. Throughout her career, Nichole worked as a dedicated waitress and bartender, serving the local community in various establishments, most recently at the Bad Apple in Watertown.

Nichole had an infectious laughter and was the brightest light in every room. To have known her was to love her. Her daughter was the center of her universe and the light of her life, and she was so proud of the woman she has become. She had a deep love for her dogs, a passion for iced coffee, and cherished moments with her niece, Natalie. She enjoyed spending time at the pool and sunbathing at Papa J’s and she had a great affinity for music.

Nichole is survived by her daughter and fiancé, Nickaela A. LaJoie, and Maxwell Grani, of Evans Mills, NY; her mother and stepfather, Deborah L. and Paul Bell, of Watertown, NY, father and stepmother, Thomas A. and Connie Johnston, Jr., of LaFargeville, New York; a brother and his wife, Thomas A. and Nicole Johnston III, of Melbourne, Florida, as well as a sister and brother-in-law, Kristen L. and Timothy Hunter, of Adams, New York; two stepsisters, Ashley E. and Jonathan Lugo Ramirez, of Evans Mills, NY, and Rachel E. Davis, of Syracuse, NY;  her two nieces, Natalie Hunter and Nadia Johnston; her maternal grandmother, Patricia Vandermill, of Watertown, NY, and her paternal grandmother, Donna Skalos, of Florida; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with her godson, Kilian McLendon.
