Patricia Adams Obituary

Patricia Mae Adams, 91, of Dexter, New York,  passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023, with family at her side at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, where she resided briefly.

She was born on December 13, 1931, in Canton, New York, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Draper) Mullin. Patricia graduated from Dexter High School in 1949 and then married Richard Adams on May 28, 1950, at the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter. The couple lived on Pillar Point their entire married lives, where they owned and operated a farm until it tragically burned down in 1957.  Pat dedicated much of her career as the Guidance Counselor Assistant at General Brown High School, from 1959 until her retirement in 1992. She was a devoted 73-year member of the Dexter 1st Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, decon, trustee, and active member, with a special commitment to her work in organizing silent auctions and church bazaars. Pat was also a member of the Chaumont Eastern Stars and, alongside her husband Richard, were active members of the Jeff-Lewis MS support group, hosting summer picnics, and helping organize annual trips to the Burnet Park Zoo,  and a Christmas luncheon. She enjoyed spending time at the family camp in the Adirondacks and the cottage on Lake Ontario. Patricia was well-remembered for her role at the Dexter Playground, where she guided children in play, arts, and crafts, including activities like plaster of paris, lanyards, and copper etchings during the summer. She was always up for a game of cards or scrabble and used to keep one of each in the car just in case. She was a lover of lighthouses, and all things Americana. Patricia was the heart of her family, always there for her children, grandchildren, extended family, community, and church.

Among her survivors are her three children, Michael (Lisa) Adams of Dexter, New York, Debbie Adams-Kaden of Huntington Station, New York, and Susan (Don) Haller of Dexter, New York. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, John (Rachelle) Adams, Christopher (Michele) Adams, Serena (Jesse) Beach, Seth Haller,  Emily (Mike) Brown, William (Crystal) Kaden, and James (Courtney) Kaden, as well as nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her husband Richard, a daughter-in-law, Josephine Adams, and a son-in-law, James T. Kaden.

Arrangements are being handled by the Johnson Funeral Home. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, October 24th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25th at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter, New York, with burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery.

If you would like to toast her life she wrote the following: Here's to the call of the loon,

And the rising of a beautiful full moon.

Here's to the beauty of the setting sun, Days filled with fishing and hunting and outdoor fun. Here's to wonderful parents, who taught us to care,

About wildlife, fish in the brooks and mountain air.

We lift our glasses, To these people who gave us something money can't buy!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dexter Presbyterian Church.
